I’m ashamed of myself.
As you know, I have one WIP (draft) and three WIPS (outlines) and… um… I decided to add another to the family.
Meet: New Book Idea (As If I Need Another One)
It’s based on famous artists.
Vincent Van Gogh inspired (unnamed)
Pablo Picasso (also unnamed…)
And many, many, many other random people.
I HAVE NO PREMISE
I HAVE NO PLOT, REALLY
I JUST HAVE AN IDEA AND THREE SAMPLE SCENES WRITTEN
All I know at this point: Picasso/Vincent BEST FRIENDS. Picasso/Pollock twins. World is based on Wonderland cause I rewatched the movie recently and I love it
Here’s one of the sample scenes::
Pablo peeks out the window and his chest constricts with excitement. He jostles Vincent awake. “Vincent! Look!” He yanks open the blinds on the train window, revealing a world of vibrant colours, intricate shapes, and monstrous vegetation. Soft, pillowy hills of grass and flowers cumulate under a turquoise sky littered with fluff. A glittering stream zigzags through clusters of towering mushrooms- that seem to literally have rooms! A chimney protrudes from the purple tops, puffing out dizzying blue vapours. Tidy little windows stack inside the creamy stalks, complete with shutters and flower-boxes. The train whizzes past the bizarre sight to another: a large glass tea-pot nestled in a garden, creatures swimming about sugar-lumps beginning to dissolve.
Vincent gasps beside him. “It’s magnificent,” she breathes. “I’m completely bandersnatched!” She rifles through her pockets for a sketchbook and charcoal-stick. “That tea-pot would make a lovely painting, dontcha think?” She scribbles out a design, ponders it, and snatches it from her book, crunching it in her fist. “No, no, no, it doesn’t look right. This train moves too fast.” Stuffing the book back in her pocket, she meets his eyes, hers fevered with elation. “And we get to live here?” she asks, her voice escalating into an exhilarated shriek. “Pablo! Just imagine the opportunity! The- the- inspiration! The wonderful things to capture on our canvases!” She plops against the seat, taking out her hair-pin. Pale ginger hair cascades in a bush around her face. “Pablo. I believe we’re in heaven.”
The train screeches to a halt, interrupting Pablo’s forming words. Vincent bolts up, pins her hair into a tight bun, and jams her straw hat atop her head. Her hand turns to help him, and he takes it. Vincent smiles. “If you can’t capture this brilliance, I don’t know who could.” She snatches up her easel and leather case, and strides down the train-car, a bounce in her step. Pablo follows, his lips tipping up in a smile.
Here are the artists I’m pulling from as inspiration for characters. Any name ideas would be greatly appreciated. (g) means I’m making a girl character inspired by a male artist cause THERE WEREN’T ANY WOMEN IN THE ART BOOK I WAS USING SO I HAD TO RESEARCH A FEW SEPERATELY. Ahem. Anyway.
Michelangelo (g), Da Vinci, Agnes Martin, Georgia O’Keefe, Raphael, Van Gogh (g), Picasso, Dali, Warhol (g), Pollock (g), Cassatt, Rubens, Giotto.
Any suggestions (names or otherwise) would be greatly appreciated.
Any ideas? Are you betting against me *actually* finishing this novel? (cause you’d probably win)
